*Farmers, fishermen, beekeepers, and essential oils producers are expected to regularly update our team regarding expected quantity and reaping/harvesting dates for their existing and new agricultural products, and changes with their contact details.
BENEFITS OF REGISTERING
*Agroconnect Caribbean does not guarantee that all registered producers (farmers, fishermen, beekeepers, and essential oil producers) will be contacted by buyers. Purchases are made at the sole discretion of buyers and are based on their individual preferences and the demand for advertised agricultural products. Producers are strongly encouraged to secure alternative markets if they are not contacted by our team close to their expected harvesting or reaping dates. Please note: Agroconnect Caribbean does not buy or sell agricultural products. Our role is to connect local producers with interested buyers. Producers are responsible for setting their own prices, managing delivery arrangements, and collecting full payment directly from buyers upon delivery.

FOLLOW THESE FIVE SIMPLE STEPS
PREPARATION & DELIVERY PROCEDURES
Step 1
Registered PRODUCERS will be notified of Buyers’ interest in a particular agricultural product(s). In the event that PRODUCERS can fill the demand (poundage or volume, and quality), the Agroconnect Caribbean team will proceed with the order. PRODUCERS will be instructed to indicate pick-up locations (which should not be their home addresses), dates and times, and begin the harvesting and sorting process. Additionally, PRODUCERS are expected to send the Agroconnect Caribbean team pictures of ‘sample(s)’ of the requested products before harvesting is done.
Step 2
PRODUCERS must notify the Agroconnect Caribbean team when harvesting and sorting of desired agricultural products are completed, which must be done during the time period indicated. Additionally, PRODUCERS must accurately weigh, count, or measure agricultural products once properly sorted and be open to doing so again when buyers are present. Both parties are also advised to take photographic proof of weight, count, or measurement of delivered products. Furthermore, PRODUCERS should have their receipt books on-hand to accurately record each transaction between themselves and Buyers and to provide proof of sale between both parties (PRODUCERS should provide Buyers with the original copies of receipts from receipt books).
Step 3
PRODUCERS will be provided with the names of Buyers, and must on the date of pick-up, ask said Buyers to provide proof of identity, for eg. Voter’s I.D., Driver’s license, or Passport). PRODUCERS are expected to provide Buyers with the agreed-upon poundage or volume, and top-quality agricultural products in keeping with our Sorting and Preparation standards. Buyers will be encouraged to bring their own measuring/weighing devices, along with needed packaging material. Additionally, Buyers are expected to direct full payment, for agricultural products, in keeping with the agreed-upon rates, to PRODUCERS upon receiving agricultural products at the designated delivery locations. Furthermore, PRODUCERS must adhere to stated Safety guidelines while conducting business.
Step 4
No gifts or unauthorized personal information should be exchanged or disclosed by either party. Individuals found in breach may risk immediate suspension from the platform. Furthermore, PRODUCERS are expected to adhere to the principles of honesty and professionalism when dealing with buyers
Step 5
PRODUCERS are required to confirm delivery with the Agroconnect Caribbean team by completing and submitting our Delivery Confirmation form.

CROP FARMERS

Step One
Ensure that produce is at its peak of readiness and quality where flavor and nutrition are concerned. Avoid bruising or damaging produce as this might decrease storage and eating quality.

Step Two
Selected produce should be free from internal and external defects, for example, bruising and discoloration. There should be uniformity in size, color, and quality.
Additionally, produce must be cleaned and there should be an absence of leaves and other foreign materials.
POST-HARVESTING
Step Three
Complete harvesting and grading must be done one day in advance of pick-up by Buyers (where applicable). During this period, produce should be housed in a cool, dry, and sanitary environment.
LIVESTOCK & POUTRY FARMERS
HANDLING MEAT
Step One
Ensure that no foreign object (box or container) comes into contact with any cutting or work surface. Furthermore, all cutting surfaces should be kept dry, and regularly cleaned and sanitized.
Additionally, cutting tools should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and avoid the mixing of different species of meat.
Always wash and sanitize hands when handling eggs and ensure that they are packed in clean trays.
STORING MEAT
Step Two
To prevent freezer burn and spoilage, meat should be properly packaged and coolers should be maintained at appropriate temperatures.
In addition, ensure that eggs are stored in trays in a dry area and away from foods with strong odors.
PREPARING LIVE ANIMALS
Cattle & Goats
Cattle will reach market weight of 1,200 to 1,400 pounds typically at 18 to 22 months. Ensure that your cattle is healthy, which is usually indicated by slick and shiny coats, alertness, normal stool (no diarrhea), and clear and bright eyes.
Ensure that your goats are free from any signs of injuries, and that their coats are shiny and eyes are clear and bright. Some signs of ill health in goats can be thin body, swollen knees, abscesses, rough coat condition or limping.
PREPARING LIVE ANIMALS
Pigs
Pigs should be alert, active and should not have rough hair coats and wrinkled skins. Avoid selling pigs with skin lesions which may be caused by lice, mange, or pig pox. Furthermore, select pigs that are not crippled and coughing and sneezing excessively.
BEEKEEPERS
HANDLING HONEY
Step One
Avoid exposing honey to heat which can damage honey irreparably and significantly reduce its medicinal properties. Furthermore, honey with high water content is prone to spoilage by fermentation.
STORING HONEY
Step Two
Honey must be stored in airtight, clean, food-grade containers to prevent spoilage and coloring.
FISHERMEN
HANDLING SEAFOOD
Step One
It’s important to handle seafood safely to avoid food-borne illnesses. Fishermen should wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before and after handling any raw food. Additionally, they should wash and sanitize cutting boards, dishes, utensils, and countertops with soap and hot water before and after the preparation of raw seafood for buyers.
STORING SEAFOOD
Step Two
Seafood should be refrigerated at appropriate temperatures and displayed to buyers on a thick bed of fresh ice. Fishermen should physically separate each raw seafood with dividers. They should ensure that their fish smells fresh and mild, not fishy, sour, or ammonia-like. A fish’s eyes should be clear and shiny. Whole fish should have firm flesh and red gills with no odor.
Shrimp, scallop, and lobster flesh should be clear with a pearl-like color and little or no odor. *Fish fillets should display no discoloration, darkening, or drying around the edges. Crabs and lobsters are better when sold alive as they spoil rapidly after death.

Avoid visits from unauthorized buyers
PRODUCERS should avoid allowing strangers/ unauthorized Buyers to visit their production locations and homes. This can be done by periodically updating their agricultural product(s) availability with the Agroconnect team. Additionally, PRODUCERS should confirm the names/ identities of Buyers by requesting that they show their I.D.s before conducting business.
Keep your information private
PRODUCERS should avoid disclosing unauthorized personal information to Buyers, for eg. contact numbers,email addresses and home addresses. They should avoid accepting money, or gifts for additional agricultural products, as ALL orders made by Buyers should be done through the platform. PRODUCERS found in breach of the above may risk immediate suspension from the platform.
Following your intuition
Trust your instincts. If you ever feel unsafe while dealing with Buyers/ their representatives, please do not hesitate to make an alert and contact the nearest police station.
COVID-19 pandemic
PRODUCERS or their designated representatives are expected to wear masks/ protective face coverings while conducting business with Buyers.
Being courteous and respectful
PRODUCERS are expected to be fair and respectful in their dealings with Buyers.
Providing feedback
PRODUCERS must complete and submit our Delivery Confirmation form and a brief review form detailing their experience once agricultural products are delivered to Buyers.
WE ARE HERE TO SERVE YOU
PAYMENT PROCEDURE
Producers are expected to receive full payment, from Buyers, for their
agricultural products on the day of delivery.
Same-day payment
Buyers/ their representatives are expected to direct full payment, for agricultural products, in keeping with the agreed-upon rates, to PRODUCERS upon receiving agricultural products at the designated delivery locations. Buyers/their representatives should not be given agricultural products unless full payment for agricultural products is made to PRODUCERS.
Accurate payment
PRODUCERS are expected to double-check payment given to them by Buyers/ their representatives to ensure that they receive full payment for agricultural products delivered and to safeguard themselves from counterfeit notes and fraudulent electronic activities. PRODUCERS should not extend credit to, or accept promises of full or part payment at a later date from Buyers/ their representatives. Additionally, PRODUCERS should provide Buyers/ their representatives with their receipts to provide proof of sale between both parties.
Remain safe
PRODUCERS should collect payment for agricultural products delivered in a safe, well-lit, and well-trafficked public area while in the company of a trusted companion. In addition, they should always tell a trusted friend or family member who they are meeting and where they are going. If they ever feel unsafe while dealing with Buyers/their representatives, they should not hesitate to make an alert and contact the nearest police station.
